R is a statistical programing language as well as a open source environment for R  programing. It also provides a variety of options to create attractive graphics for  visualization of the statistical data. There are many library in different packages  especially developed for the better visualization purpose. For eg. ggplot, ggplot2  etc.

R is developed by further modifications in S programing language, which was also  a programing language as well as a environment for statistical programing developed in bell laboratory by John Chambers and colleagues.
